Mom and daughter from China still missing in Egypt

(ECNS) -- A Chinese woman has been missing along with her mother for 23 days in Egypt.

Shan Na, 31, is an amateur backpacker who has traveled to several countries alone. Shan and her mother started their journey to Egypt on July 27.

After nearly a month into their trip, on Aug 17, Shan's father bought return tickets for them dated Aug 24.

"The only thing I know is that my wife and daughter were still in a small town called Dahab in Sinai Peninsula of Egypt when we chatted over the Internet telephone for the last time on Aug 22," Shan's father said, adding that he then lost contact with them.

"They promised to return on Aug 24, and they said they would bring me gifts," he added.

Since mother and daughter didn't return on schedule, Shan's father contacted the Chinese Embassy in Egypt and reported them missing.

After losing contact with Shan Na, Ouyang Chengzhuo, a friend of Shan's, posted a tracing notice on his Weibo account, and called on his followers to help forward the post.

The Chinese Embassy in Egypt has sent officials to Sinai Peninsula to help local police search for Shan and her mother. However, no trace of them has been found.
