(ECNS) -- A 7-year-old girl does her homework under a streetlight in Yibin, Southwest China's Sichuan province, while her mother, a sanitation worker, cleans the streets around her.

Wu Weixiu checks her daughter's homework several times during her shift, and sometimes reads textbooks with her.

Wu said she has no other choice but to take her daughter to work. "Only my illiterate mother lives with us, but she can't help my daughter with her homework," she said.

However, Tang Dingrui had another explanation. "The streetlight is much brighter than the light in our house, and my mom can save the expense on electricity," the girl said.

The single mom said, "The girl was born shortsighted. No one keeps an eye on her when I'm at work, so I have to take her with me."
