Qingdao (CNS) – The two-day 7th World Chinese Media Forum (WCMF), held in Qingdao, east China's Shandong province, adopted the Declaration of Qingdao on Sunday.

Overseas Chinese media from about 60 countries and regions worldwide, along with mainstream media on the Chinese mainland, exchanged views on the topic of "Chinese Dream -- fresh mission for Chinese media amid a changing world."

The forum was jointly held by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office under the State Council, the governments of Shandong province and Qingdao city, and China News Service.

The full text of the declaration is as follows:

First, the world today is in a period of dramatic development and revolution, with global politics and economy changing profoundly. News media are recorders, participants and builders of the times, and share a common fate with the times. We hereby call on Chinese media around the world to spread positive energy, establish credibility and construct a bridge of communications, mutual understanding, and goodwill among different regions and ethnic groups, with the mission of human progress and social development.

Second, the Chinese government has put forth "Chinese Dream" to realize national rejuvenation. The Chinese Dream is a goal to develop friendships and mutual beneficial cooperation with neighbor countries, to build a harmonious world of lasting peace and common prosperity, and to pursue a path of peaceful development to realize national rejuvenation, prosperity, and people's well-being. It also helps bridge China and the world, benefits mutual learning in cultures and civilizations. We hereby call on Chinese people both at home and abroad to work together to fulfill and share the Chinese Dream, and to facilitate the advancement of human society and civilizations.

Third, with the development of digital global media industry and the coexistence of new media and traditional media, omnimedia is becoming a mainstream trend. The explosive growth of social media like microblogs and WeChat signals the reform of media, and indicates the transformation of the media ecosystem and its business model. Trends of collectivization, networking, and internationalization have appeared in the development of Chinese media. We hereby call on Chinese media all over the world to grasp the chance of change and meet the challenge, vigorously promote the transformation and innovation to cover their digital divide, and enhance both soft power and hard power.

Fourth, China has become the third-largest consumer market in media and entertainment. However, the overall strength of Chinese media is still weak. There voice and reach need enhancing, and their international communication capabilities and influence need building up. We hereby call on the media in China cooperating with overseas Chinese media to act as heirs of the Chinese culture and spirit, and tellers of "Chinese stories" in the world, and to create a fair, balanced, and rational environment of international public opinions.
