(ECNS) – The fast pace and stress of urban life may have contributed to the popularity of the "Giant Panda Channel," according to a report on Tvbs.com.tw.

The channel, launched by the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in Sichuan province, broadcasts panda activity 24 hours a day and has attracted a large viewership, even though the pandas usually only sleep and eat bamboo.

Experts say the stress of urban life makes people rely on slow-paced programming to relieve pressure, which might be the key to the channel's success.

"Slow TV" originated in Norway, where some channels broadcast a 12-hour fire burning or a 7-hour train journey.
