Most Chinese start, end day with smartphones

Shanghai (ECNS) -- The influence of smartphones is affecting the morning and bedtime hours of most Chinese people, according to a survey released Thursday.

GroupM Interaction China, a Shanghai-based media enterprise, surveyed 983 smartphone users, covering both genders as well various city tiers across China. It found that 80 percent of respondents sleep with their phones within arm's reach, 73 percent are woken up by phone alarms, and 95 percent spend their last hour before falling asleep on smartphones.

Most smartphone users spend the time checking and posting on WeChat and Weibo, which turns "alone" time into "social" time, the survey says.

As many as 91 percent of respondents prefer to check time with their smartphones, while they consider traditional devices like watches obsolete.

Almost 65 percent of respondents say they use smartphones to improve their photos, 73 percent have scanned QR codes, and 50 percent interact with TV programs with their smartphones.
