Beijing customs seize 5.7 kg of drugs

Beijing (ECNS) -- A total of 5.7 kilograms of drugs have been seized in 2013, Beijing customs authorities said on Wednesday, or International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

Customs cited six cases of drug smuggling, which also provided clues that helped crack nine cases of smuggling via mail.

Smugglers mostly chose to hide drugs either in their shoes or beneath their clothes, the authorities said.

A South African transferring from Hong Kong to Phnom Penh was found in his long johns several parcels of cocaine weighing a total of 2.45 kilograms during an X-ray detection, customs added.

The authority said it has stepped up drug enforcement efforts with sniffer dogs and high tech measures.
