Hong Kong (CNS)-- More than 3,000 poverty-stricken students on the Chinese mainland have benefited from assistance provided by the Huaxia Foundation, a Hong Kong-based charity organization.
Founded in 1982, Huaxia Foundation is a non-profit dedicated to supporting the development of education and medical endeavors in poverty-stricken areas of the mainland.
Over 280 mainland schools have benefited from Huaxia projects worth 200 million yuan (32.6 million US dollars), according to the chairman of the foundation, speaking at a dinner to celebrate the foundation's 30th anniversary on Thursday.
The foundation will remain committed to integrating the resources of Hong Kong with the mainland to help more students, the chairman added.
The dinner was also attended by Hong Kong's chief executive Leung Chun-ying, CPPCC vice chairman Tung Chee Hwa, and Zhang Xiaoming, director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong SAR.
