Beijing (CNS) -- Cabinets from the period of Emperor Qianlong (1711-1799) sold for 93.15 million yuan (15.2 million US dollars) at an auction in Beijing on Tuesday.
The hammer price is the highest ever by an antique furniture auction in China.
The red sandalwood cabinets bearing the images of dragons and lotuses were sold at one of the evening auction events held by the Beijing Poly International Auction Co. Ltd.
The cabinets have been reserved by the Meyer family of Denmark for many years. At a height of 3 meters, the cabinets represent the largest ancient combine-cabinets on the market besides the furnishings in the Hall of Supreme Harmony at the Palace Museum.
