Chengdu (CNS) -- Chengdu has emerged as one of Fortune Magazine's top places for multinational companies to expand their presences in China, according to reports.
Since the magazine announced last year that Chengdu would host the 12th Fortune Global Forum, 31 companies, including Swiss pharmaceutical company Roche Group and France's Groupe Danone, have launched investment projects in the Sichuan capital.
Official statistics show that 238 Fortune Global 500 companies have opened operations in Chengdu so far.
The city's growing economic clout is why Fortune selected Chengdu as the host city for the forum, to be held from June 6 to 8 this year.
It will be the first time for the prestigious business meeting to be held in China's historically underdeveloped western region.
