Guiyang (CNS) -- Taiwan's Chiao Tung University in Hsinchu is expected to join hands with four mainland Jiaotong universities to set up a massive open online course (MOOC) platform.
The MOOC would provide large-scale interactive participation and open access via the web for students all over the world.
In addition to traditional course materials such as video, readings and problem sets, MOOCs provide interactive user forums that help build community for students and professors.
Increasing demand by learners in Taiwan and the mainland has provided opportunities for the establishment of the platform, according to an official at the National Chiao Tung University on Sunday.
The four mainland universities involved are Shanghai Jiaotong University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Southwest Jiaotong University, and Beijing Jiaotong University.
The five universities will co-invest in the establishment of an education company which can provide online curriculum resources to Chinese around the world for free.
