ZTE becomes fastest-growing smartphone vendor in US

Beijing (CNS) -- ZTE has emerged as the fastest-growing smartphone vendor in the United States, according to data from research firm Strategy Analytics, which show that ZTE's smartphone sales in the American market surged by 85.7 percent in the first quarter of this year.

ZTE's sales revenue in the US reached $1 billion in 2012, according to the company's public relations department on Thursday.

ZTE's growth in the US can be attributed to the company's increasing share of the no-contract phone market, which it has achieved by leveraging its strong relationships with major carriers such as AT&T, Boost Mobile/Sprint, T-Mobile, MetroPCS, Cricket Wireless and Tracfone.

This year, ZTE is expected to invest $30 million in its US business. The investment will mainly be used for research and development of innovative technologies, said Cheng Lixin, chief executive officer of ZTE Corp.'s US unit.

ZTE will be committed to strengthening the cooperation with local carriers in the US to offer the best value to consumers, Cheng added.
