Guangzhou (CNS) -- The protected and endangered Chinese white dolphin has not been affected by the ongoing construction of the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge, the Guangdong Ocean and Fisheries Administration said on Wednesday.
The administration said in a report that the death toll in 2012 was within normal levels at 19 Chinese white dolphins.
Liu Siyuan, head of the administration's environment division, said the construction team has implemented the required mitigation measures and is carrying out training for staff, which has minimized the threats to the dolphins.
The Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge will connect three major cities in the Pearl River Delta. The construction site is adjacent to the protection zone of Chinese white dolphins, or Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins, which are on the list of protected and endangered mammals of China.
