Huizhou (CNS) -- Over 100 polluting enterprises around Guangdong province's Dongjiang River, a major water source for Hong Kong, were shut down last year by the Huizhou city government.
A total of 113 businesses that discharged heavy metal pollution were shut down to protect water quality in the river, according to the city government on Wednesday.
The Huizhou government said it will also invest in 21 sewage treatment facilities in the region this year.
The Dongjiang River has been crowned as the mother river for Hong Kong, as well as Guangdong province's Shenzhen, Dongguan, and Huizhou.
