(ECNS) -- The News Office of south China's Zhuhai city has said that woven polypropylene (PP) Red Cross bags found in a factory were used by mistake, and confirmed that the old clothes in them were not donated by citizens to quake regions, according to the official microblog of Xinhua News Agency on Sunday.
The office said the bags marked with "Donations of Zhuhai Red Cross Society" were used mistakenly by a senior female volunteer surnamed Qi, who had collected old clothes for charity for years.
The pieces which are improper for donation will be sold, and the earnings registered by her for charity purposes, the office added.
Qi mistakenly used the bags she took from the Zhuhai Red Cross Society when selling clothes, the office said.
It was reported last Thursday that several PP bags owned by the Zhuhai Red Cross Society containing used clothes had been found in a company's storehouse for exportation.
