Mianyang (CNS) -- The Wenchuan Earthquake Memorial Museum opened to the public Thursday in Sichuan province.
The museum in Beichuan county covers 142,300 square meters and is surrounded by trees. The whole structure is a symbol of new life and hope, said Jing Fuguo, a staffer at the museum.
Zhu Zhengnan, another staffer, said there are six exhibition halls, 837 photos and more than 5,000 pieces, as well as sculptures and LED screens showing the changes in devastated areas.
Zhang Zhongmin, one of the volunteers who participated in quake relief and reconstruction of the region, came to visit from Shandong province. Zhang said he was impressed and that he was taken back to that period of time.
Luo Qiang, secretary of the municipal party committee of Mianyang, said it is not only a museum, but also a monument worth remembering from the day in 2008.
