The United Nations (CNS) -- A delegation led by Beijing Mayor Wang Anshun arrived at the United Nations in New York on Wednesday. The aim of the mayor's visit is to help people around the world learn more about the capital of China.
On Wednesday, Wang attended the opening ceremony of a photo exhibition showcasing the tourism resources and historical and cultural traditions of Beijing.
Jointly sponsored by the Chinese Permanent Mission to the UN, the Beijing Municipal Government and Beijing Municipal Commission of Tourism Development, the exhibition will go until May 15.
At the opening ceremony, Wang introduced Beijing's famous tourism spots to UN Deputy Secretary General Jan Eliasson and other participants.
After the opening ceremony, Wang attended a roundtable conference on sustainable development and tourism. Jointly sponsored by several organizations, including the World Tourism Cities Federation, and the Chinese Permanent Mission to the UN, the conference was designed to increase the influence of the federation in the international arena.
The federation, a non-profit, non-governmental international body organized by world tourism cities and other groups related to tourism, was established in Beijing in 2012.
With the goal of making cities better through tourism, the federation aims to expand tourism sectors, and to improve the quality and efficiency of the tourism industry.
