(ECNS) -- Chinese citizens remained cool toward new immigration rules unfavorable to Chinese applicants, according to a report by the Canada branch of World Journal.
Canada's immigration department began processing applications for foreign skilled workers last Sunday, and the new rules include a requirement for foreign workers to submit an educational assessment, including any degrees or diplomas.
The CEO of a Canadian enterprise that provides investment and immigration services, surnamed Jiang, said the new rules aroused negative feedback from Chinese people living in Canada, unlike previous reforms. Many applicants have to resubmit materials, which may take more time due to complex Chinese degrees or diplomas, Jiang said.
Applications will be rejected if all the required documents are not provided, Jiang said, delaying some applicants' plans.
Another enterprise's vice chairman, Wu Bing, said most of those who have submitted applications had studied and obtained diplomas in Canada.
A skilled occupation list of 24 categories issued by the Canadian government also disqualified some who intended to apply, Jiang said.
