ECNS -- A micro blogger on Wednesday tipped off online that a Volkswagen Touareg with a new military license plate was seen on the No. 106 National Road, indicating that the vehicle violated a new rule issued last week by the PLA General Logistics Department.
A person in charge of the transportation section of the PLA Joint Logistics Department in Beijing Military Region responded that the Volkswagen Touareg is not classified as a luxury vehicle, specified as Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Lincoln, Cadillac, Volkswagen Phaeton, Bentley, Jaguar, Porsche Cayenne, and Audi Q7.
Military officials with corps-level rank were fixed with Touaregs, he said. To avoid waste, luxury vehicles priced at over 450,000 yuan ($72,990) will continue to be used, but no more new vehicles at that price or higher will be purchased, he added.
He also said the department welcomes tips from Internet users.
