Boao (CNS) -- Bill Gates, co-chair and trustee of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, said on Saturday that he has been looking forward to cooperation with authorities in China in poverty alleviation.
Gates made the remarks at a dialogue titled "Investment for the Poor" during this year's annual meeting of the Boao Forum for Asia held in South China's Hainan province.
It has been a great success story for China to help 600 million Chinese people to shake off poverty in just 30 years, Gates said.
Gates pointed out that over the past two decades, China's grain productivity has been growing at an annual rate of 2.6 percent, and the income of rural people in China has increased by 15-fold.
The reason behind China's success in poverty alleviation lies in the country's market-oriented economic transformation, and the government's investment in the innovation and technology fields, said Gates.
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation hopes to enhance cooperation with authorities in China and help more people around the world rise out of poverty.
