Beijing (CNS) -- The vice minister of commerce expressed confidence about meeting the foreign trade target set for 2013, despite fluctuations in exports in the past month.
Chen Jian made the remarks Tuesday in an interview after a press briefing of the State Council. "Foreign trade fluctuated through the whole month of March," Chen said. "Exports increased at first, and then dropped, but it rebounded, with imports being lowered."
In the first two months of this year, exports increased faster than imports, according to customs statistics.
Chen said he is confident about accomplishing this year's aim for foreign trade, and "the confidence is not blind," he emphasized.
The new Chinese president's just-ended tour will promote trade between China and Africa as well as among BRICS, Chen said.
China has set an 8 percent growth target for foreign trade in 2013 amid slow recovery of the world economy, a bit higher than its target of 7.5 percent economic growth.
