Jinan (Ecns) – Nearly 100 colleges and universities from 16 countries gathered at a student recruitment fair on Sunday in Jinan, capital of east China's Shandong province.
European and American schools are still popular among students who want to go abroad.
More than 10 American colleges, including the University of Massachusetts, Oregon State University, University of Utah and University of Cincinnati, attracted groups of local students and their parents at the fair.
Besides the European and American schools, 11 Asian colleges also took part in the fair.
Wan Jun, from the Japanese Language Department of Waseda Museum, said that there are now about 160,000 overseas students in Japan, and 74 percent of them are from China. China has become Japan's largest overseas student population.
With more younger students going to study overseas, middle schools are increasingly recruiting Chinese students through education fairs. More than 100 boarding schools in the UK began accepting Chinese primary and middle school students, said Yan Jing, a representative from a British school.
