Baotou (CNS) -- A major gold deposit has been discovered in west Baotou's Hadamen Ditch in north China's Inner Mongolia, the autonomous region's Department of Land and Resources said Tuesday.
The deposit is expected to have a gold reserve of 68.4 tons.
The exploration is sponsored by the region's geological survey fund. More than 100 million yuan has been invested in the project.
Hundreds of officers and soldiers from a division of the Armed Police Force were dispatched to explore the gold mine and survey production.
Hadamen Ditch is one of China's important gold deposit areas. It was discovered in the 1980s, but until recently survey work has been slow due to lack of funding.
