Guiyang (CNS) -- Raw materials used to make Maotai liquor have been awarded organic certification, according to the Kweichow Moutai Company.
An online report had accused Maotai of using ingredients that are not organic. It also said chemical pesticides were used in the field that grows the sorghum.
Zhao Yuanhang, director of the organic production center of Guizhou province's Renhuai city, said on Thursday that the factory that provides raw materials for Maotai was awarded organic certification in 2000 by the Organic Food Development and Certification Center of China (OFDC).
The OFDC conducts inspections every year and the test results are verified by the Certification and Accreditation Administration, he added.
Zhang also said the city examined the factory and confirmed that the sorghum processed there met organic standards.
The OFDC announced on the same day that they had performed their duties carefully and had never detected any pesticides at the base.
