RMB deposits in Taiwan top 10 bln   

人民幣存款業(yè)務(wù)在臺首月破百億

啟動人民幣存款業(yè)務(wù)滿一月，臺灣指定外匯銀行(DBU)人民幣存款總額已突破人民幣100億元大關(guān)。

Beijing (CNS) -- RMB deposits at Taiwan banks reached 10 billion yuan (48 billion New Taiwan Dollars) by March 4, according to data released Wednesday.

Taiwan banks started taking RMB deposits on February 6. There were only 14 business days last month due to the Spring Festival holiday, bringing the average daily deposit to 700 million yuan.

First Bank, Chinatrust and Bank SinoPac received the majority of the deposits.

"RMB business is welcomed by banks and companies in Taiwan, and we expect tremendous development in the future," said Li Lihui, governor of the Bank of China.

The Chinese mainland and Taiwan signed a currency clearing memorandum in August last year.
