Fewer Chinese students in Japan  

2012年赴日中國(guó)留學(xué)生明顯減少 地震影響未消

據(jù)日本《中文導(dǎo)報(bào)》報(bào)道，據(jù)日本學(xué)生支援機(jī)構(gòu)的最新調(diào)查顯示，截至2012年5月為止，在日本的大學(xué)等就讀的中國(guó)留學(xué)生為86,324人，較上年減少1,209人；另外，在日本語(yǔ)言學(xué)校就讀的中國(guó)留學(xué)生為15,079人，較上年減少2,275人。

(Ecns.cn) -- The number of international students in Japan last year dropped sharply following the earthquake and tsunami in 2011, the Chinese Review Weekly reports.

Enrollment by Chinese students at colleges and universities in Japan was 86,324 by May 2012, down by 1,209 from a year earlier, recent statistics show. There was also a dramatic decline in the number of Chinese studying the Japanese language.

Mainlanders still remained the highest among foreign students, with those from Korea and Taiwan numbering 16,651 and 4,617. By May last year, the total number of foreign college students in Japan declined for two consecutive years to 137,756.

Student numbers have suffered because of the earthquake and the subsequent disaster at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, as well as the strengthening yen. Numbers have also been affected by the deterioration of relations between Japan and China over the Diaoyu Islands.
