Beijing (CNS) — China's organ donation system will be expanded to cover the entire country, according to the Ministry of Health and the Red Cross Society of China (RCSC) on Monday.
The two organizations began trial operation of an organ donation program in March 2010 which has so far been adopted by 19 provinces.
By Feb. 22 this year, 659 people and 1,804 major organizations had donated to patients in need, said Zhao Baige, executive vice president of the RCSC.
A management structure for organ donations in the pilot areas has been established, and laws and regulations have been revised and improved, according to Hua Jianmin, president of the RCSC.
Zhao added that the project would be extended to all provinces possibly before the end of this year. A national information network will also be established to ensure that donations are carried out in a transparent and scientific manner, he said.
