Haikou cancels fireworks show to avoid pollution   

回應七成網民建議 海口取消2013元宵焰火晚會

17日晚，記者獲悉，原定于正月十五元宵節(2月24日)舉辦的海口市第四屆元宵焰火晚會被取消。

Haikou (ECNS) – Haikou's Fourth Lantern Festival Fireworks Show, which was scheduled for Feb. 24, has been canceled, according to local authorities on Sunday.

This year's show was canceled in response to the central government's anti-waste campaign and to avoid harm to environmental quality, the authorities said.

In a recent survey on whether to hold the fireworks show, about 68.7 percent of interviewees agreed to cancel it.
