Shanghai (CNS) -- Shanghai's product quality watchdog has launched an investigation into a problematic garment maker, ordering it to halt production of some potentially harmful clothing items, the Pudong district government said on its microblog Sunday.
Six out of 22 batches of school uniforms examined by the Shanghai Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision failed tests for fiber content or toxic substances.
Uniforms produced by the Shanghai Ouxia Clothing Company Ltd, a small factory in Pudong, were found to contain banned dyes containing aromatic amines, which could lead to cancer, the bureau said.
Students at 21 schools that purchased uniforms from Ouxia Clothing Company have been ordered to stop wearing the uniforms.
The bureau released the names of the 21 schools this morning.
