Tokyo (CNS) -- An exhibition titled "Wang Xizhi: Master Calligrapher" opened on Monday at the Tokyo National Museum to mark the 40th anniversary of the normalization of China-Japan relations.
The exhibition showcases many copies of Wang's works, including "Preface to the Poems Composed at the Orchid Pavilion." Other famous calligraphers' works are also on display, including Su Shi, Zhao Mengfu and Dong Qichang, which show Wang's great influence over later generations, the museum said.
An extremely rare copy of one of Wang's pieces recently found in Japan is on exhibit for the first time, the museum added.
A report in the Japanese press said it is a rare opportunity for calligraphy lovers, as some of the most valuable pieces in the world are included in the show.
Speeches and other events will be held during the exhibit, which lasts 36 days, according to the museum.
The museum's vice director said at a press conference last November that the cultural exchange would help the Sino-Japan relationship.
Wang Xizhi, a Jin Dynasty figure known as the "Sage of Calligraphy," is one of China's most esteemed calligraphers. He has also been influential in Japan.
