Beijing (CNS) -- Public transportation networks have been prepared for the coming Spring Festival travel rush, according to the Ministry of Transport on Thursday.
Ministry spokesman He Jianzhong said at a press conference that over 3.1 billion people are expected to go home by road or water during China's annual Spring Festival travel rush. Public transportation networks are expected to accommodate more than 77 million passengers daily.
The ministry has arranged 840,000 large and medium-size buses for the rush and will add another 20,000 for peak periods. The buses are expected to make over 2 million trips every day, he said. We also have ships available for the estimated 43 million passengers who will travel via water, he added.
He also said that transport authorities have initiated emergency measures to deal with incidents caused by snow and icy weather conditions.
The spokesman asked transport departments to launch effective measures to guarantee passenger safety during the rush.
