“必須長期堅持計劃生育基本國策不動搖,把穩定低生育水平作為工作的首要任務。”中國國家人口和計劃生育委員會主任王俠14日在北京說。
Beijing (CNS) -- China will stick to its current family planning policy and try to maintain a low birth rate, Wang Xia, director of the National Population and Family Planning Commission, said on Monday.
To better implement the basic national policy of family planning, top priority should be given to maintaining a low birth rate, Wang said at a work conference in Beijing.
Wang's opinion was echoed at the conference by other experts, who agreed that the current birth rate is still not stable, and dropping the policy would lead to a fertility rebound in most parts of the country.
Efforts should also be made to enhance grassroots working mechanisms in cities, so that more rural migrants will be covered by the family planning system, Wang added.
