Zhanjiang (CNS) -- A Sinopec pipeline which leaked more than 10 tons of crude oil into a river in southern China's Guangdong Province was under control by midnight Sunday, regional environmental authorities have said.
The leak happened around 3:40 p.m. on Sunday at a pipeline that runs from Zhanjiang to Maoming.
The local government said it had adopted emergency measures, evacuated local citizens and blocked the polluted part of the river.
The local environmental protection department said it has been gathering the spilled oil and monitoring nearby water sources. There has been no evidence that the Chikan Reservoir is polluted, it said.
