Nanchang (CNS) -- A runaway female official in Jiangxi Province has been removed from her post and is now under investigation, the local publicity office confirmed Thursday.
Zou Lei, the deputy director of the audit office of Yongxiu County, Jiangxi Province, has been missing since December 8, 2012, the publicity office said.
She sent messages to her director that day asking for leave, but got no permission. Since then she has been out of touch, the office told reporters.
Several citizens had reported Zou to local police for more than 1.12 million yuan in fraud, the office said.
Zou was also rumored to have more than 3 million yuan in gambling debts before she ran away, according to a local newspaper.
