Shenzhen (CNS) -- Guided missile destroyer "Shenzhen," one of the largest of its kind built by China, returned to the city it was named after for opening day activities on Wednesday.
The event marked the fourth anniversary of the PLA's naval escort. The "Shenzhen" was part of China's second naval escort taskforce, which successfully accomplished escort missions in the Gulf of Aden and waters off the Somali coast in 2009.
The activity displays China's navy and gives the public an opportunity to learn more about it, said Zhao Changsheng, captain of the "Shenzhen," which was built in 1998.
Escort warships "Qingdao," "Zhoushan," and "Guangzhou" have also made appearances in their respective cities.
