Beihai (CNS) -- The All China Women's Federation (ACWF) is focusing on the employment of rural women who have migrated to urban areas, an official said Tuesday at a conference in Beihai, a city in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
Women account for 65 percent of the rural labor force in China, and serve as a major force for the development of rural modernization, according to Cui Yu, a federation official.
Rural women can engage in flexible jobs such as hand-weaving to earn money and achieve self-improvement, said Cui. A total of 3.37 million women have been employed by hand-knitting associations in 10 provinces, Cui added, citing official statistics.
The housekeeping industry is also an important sector for employment of rural women in urban areas, Cui said.
