Beijing (CNS)—The imbalance in global trade will trigger a rise of trade protectionism in 2013, according to a report released Tuesday by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
Global trade growth has long been supported by three major economies, namely the EU, America and Japan. However, those economies are all going through difficult times, especially the EU, whose economic depression has already had a negative effect on global exports, the report said.
Poor economic conditions in the three countries have created the global trade imbalance, the report found.
That imbalance has already triggered the resurgence of protectionism: 18 countries and regions have launched 40 trade remedy investigations, such as anti-dumping and countervailing duties, against Chinese exports in the first half of this year, according to the report.
