Guangzhou (CNS) -- Two drivers who caused a tanker truck fire that killed 20 people and seriously injured 16 were sentenced to prison by a Guangdong court Wednesday.
One driver was sentenced to six years in jail, the other three years and six months.
The fire occurred in the early morning of June 29 when one of the men drove a mid-size truck into the tanker, which was illegally parked on the expressway. 40 metric tons of solvent oil leaked from the tanker, then flowed beneath the expressway and caught fire.
The fire burned buildings and a container yard, killing 20 people, seriously injuring 16, slightly injuring 6 and maiming 1 other.
Illegal buildings under the expressway worsened the severity of the accident, according to the court.
