Fuzhou (CNS) -- Ruins of buildings dating back more than 2,000 years were discovered Thursday at the construction site of Subway Line One in Fuzhou, the capital of Fujian Province.
Judging from pieces of tile and brick, the buildings date back to some time between the Western Han Dynasty and the era of Five Dynasties, said Zhang Yong, head of the onsite archeological team and a researcher at the local archeological institute.
The multi-layered ruins were found at a depth of six meters, Zhang said.
Fuzhou has a history of more than 2,000 years and the ruins might belong to the royal palace of the Minyue Kingdom, he added.
Wang Zhenyong, former deputy head of the local museum, said the relics have a high archaeological and cultural value.
