Beijing (CNS)-- The Internet has emerged as a powerful tool for the public to monitor the work of the government, as anti-corruption efforts on microblogs become increasingly influential, according to a professor at the Party School of the CPC Central Committee in Beijing on Wednesday.
The Internet offers an effective channel for the public to express their political will and conduct democratic supervision, said Professor Li Yunlong at the fifth Beijing Forum on Human Rights.
Lei Zhengfu, a Chongqing official, and Sun Dejiang, a legislator in Heilongjiang province, were both recently removed from their positions after their sexual misconduct was exposed on microblogs.
Over 3 million remarks are posted online by Chinese netizens every day, said Li Yunlong, who added that the Internet has dramatically improved the public's freedom of speech.
