Beijing (CNS) -- As of October, the number of mobile internet users in China totaled 750 million, according to statistics released Thursday by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
The country saw an explosive growth of 116 million mobile internet users in the first 10 months of this year.
The number has exceeded industry expectations: Zero2IPO Research Center predicted in 2011 that China would have 520 million users by 2012, while a prediction by Analysys International hit closer to the mark at 600 million.
Experts say the popularity of smart phones and tablet PCs contributed to the growth.
China Telecom sold over 30 million 3G mobile phones in the first half of this year.
