Beijing (CNS) -- At 2,200 kilometers, the world's longest high-speed rail linking Beijing and the southern city of Guangzhou will open next month, according to the Ministry of Railways on Sunday.
The railway line is expected to cut travel time between the two cities to eight hours from more than 20 hours, the ministry said.
Trial operation along the Beijing-Zhengzhou section, the last part of the route, began on Sunday morning. The Wuhan-Guangzhou part has been operating since December 2009 and the Zhengzhou-Wuhan section opened in September this year.
The length of China's high-speed railways now in operation has surpassed 7,500 kilometers.
