Bijie vows to look after left-behind children  

貴州5童亡故善后處理完畢 啟動流浪兒童救助機制

貴州省畢節市有關部門于22日向媒體通報稱，日前畢節市5名兒童死亡事故已處理完畢。當地有關部門已啟動流浪兒童救助機制，同時加強義務教育階段中小學生輟學排查，確保適齡兒童該入學的一個不能少，已入學的一個不能走。

Bijie (CNS) -- The government of Bijie, a prefecture-level city in southwest China's Guizhou Province, announced a new program on Thursday that will provide protection for left-behind children and ensure that they attend school.

The announcement came after the remains of five local children were found in a roadside dumpster last week. Zhou Zuhua, deputy mayor of the city's Qixingguan District, said the bodies had been incinerated.

Luo Yanming, of the local bureau of civil affairs, said the district had applied to establish a center for runaway children and homeless people, as well as public service signs and a hotline.

Because the number of local parents who leave to seek employment is increasing, we will register left-behind children and make sure they are cared for, said Chen Yong, who works at the local bureau of education.

Tao Yuanwu, father of Tao Chong and Tao Bo, two of the victims, said on Wednesday that he would go back to Shenzhen for work. Tao Xueyuan, father of Tao Zhongjing and Tao Zhonghong, another two victims, said he would stay in the city to look after his youngest son and avoid another tragedy.
