Guangzhou (CNS) --The 112th China Import and Export Fair, or Canton Fair, kicked off Monday and is expected to attract as many buyers as previous sessions, according to insiders.
This fair faces a serious situation due to factors such as the European debt crisis, sour Sino-Japanese relations and political tension in the Middle East, said Liu Jianjun, spokesperson for the fair and deputy director general of the China Foreign Trade Centre.
The number of buyers at the 111th fair in spring this year hit a record high of 21,000.
The Canton Fair has been held in spring and autumn each year since 1957, and serves as a foreign trade weather vane for China. The current fair, which has over 59,000 exhibition booths, lasts until November 4.
