Shanghai (CNS) -- Beijing and Shanghai for the first time ranked among the top five on the 2012 Cities of Opportunity for two indicators, according to a report released Thursday by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and the Partnership for New York City.
Beijing advanced to the top spot in the "economic clout" category while Shanghai placed fifth behind Paris, London and New York.
Beijing, which is home to the second-largest number of Fortune Global 500 companies' headquarters in the world, jumped to the top of the list from the previous ninth position.
The two Chinese metropolises also made the top five in a new category called "city gateway." Shanghai ranked fourth in that category, an indicator of global interconnectedness and international attraction.
