Nanchang (CNS) — Ten famous historic towers in China, including the Pavilion of Prince Teng, will jointly apply for the UNESCO World Heritage List, according to the Tengwang Pavilion Administrative Office on Tuesday.
The office has already been notified and preparation work for the application has begun, said Luo Minhong, director at the pavilion office.
Located in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, the pavilion (sometimes called the Tengwang Pavilion) was made famous by the prose work "Preface to the Pavilion of Prince Teng" by Wang Bo, a famous Tang Dynasty poet.
Among the other nine towers are the Yueyang Tower in Hunan, the Yellow Crane Tower in Hubei, the Stork Tower (Guanquelou) in Shanxi, the Penglai Pavilion in Shandong, and the Grand View Pavilion in Yunnan.
China is home to 28 world cultural heritage sites, most of them intangible. The application by the 10 towers is seen as a potential breakthrough in the country's world heritage status.
