Washington (CNS) -- Close cooperation among countries is now necessary to respond to new challenges in the field of intellectual property, said a senior Chinese trade official here on Wednesday.
Chong Quan, deputy international trade representative of the Chinese Ministry of Commerce, made the remarks at the Second China-US International Cooperation Forum on Intellectual Property Rights.
Chong cited statistics from Chinese Customs which show that China-US trade amounted to US$313 billion in the past eight months, a year-on-year growth of 9.6%.
China's imports from the US rose to US$86.6 billion, an increase of 8%, while exports reached US$226.4 billion, an increase of 10.2%, he said. China is the second-largest trade partner, the largest source of imports and the third largest export market for the US, he added.
Chong went on to say that as the largest developed country and the largest developing country in the world, the US and China should bear the responsibilities of speeding up the recovery of the global economy by implementing a policy of free trade and curbing trade protectionism.
In the field of intellectual property, the Chinese government has been making efforts to carry out all-round cooperation and exchanges with various regions and countries, Chong said.
