Washington (CNS) – China slightly increased its holdings of U.S. bonds by $2.6 billion worth of treasury securities in July, according to statistics released Tuesday by the U.S. Treasury Department.
With a total holding of nearly $1.15 trillion, China remains the largest creditor of the United States, the data showed.
China only increased its U.S. debt holdings in two months in the first half of this year, showing a pullback trend, analysts pointed out.
Japan, the second-largest lender to the U.S., increased $27.3 billion worth of treasury securities over the first half of this year. The gap between China and Japan is shrinking when it comes to the amount held.
