Diqing (CNS) -- Even though he is paid very little for it, 60-year-old Yu Jianhua isn't about to give up on his furry mountain friends.
"I don't want to retire, so I will continue to take care of the precious monkeys until I can't move," the ranger at Yunnan's Baima Snow Mountain National Nature Reserve said on Sunday.
One of Yu's main tasks is to protect the Yunnan snub-nosed monkey, an endangered species. He tracks them down every day, delivers food and sometimes takes sick ones to an emergency center.
Yu said he started the job two decades ago at a salary of 180 yuan (US$28) a month. Even now, his monthly pay is only about 158 dollars.
"But I never regret my choice," he said. "I feel happy when I see the cute and energetic monkeys."
