Shanghai (CNS) -- From January to August, local courts heard 616 commercial cases involving foreign businessmen, according to the Higher People's Court of Shanghai (HPCS) on Thursday.
Shanghai ranks among the top Chinese cities for the number of commercial cases involving foreigners every year.
Local courts received 513 foreigner-related cases in 2010, and 757 cases in 2011, a growth of 47.6 percent, according to statistics from the HPCS. The disputes mainly centered on international trade and stock rights.
Such cases used to mostly involve developed countries such as the US, the UK, Germany and Australia, but disputes with emerging countries like Turkey, India, Brazil and Mongolia have increased in recent years, said Sheng Yongqiang, vice president of the HPCS.
