Beijing (CNS) – Chinese electronics giant Jingdong responded on Wednesday to the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), which is investigating the company for "fabricating prices and cheating consumers."
Jingdong apologized for not having lived up to its promises.
The company triggered a price battle on August 14 by claiming it would earn "zero profits for three years" and make prices at least 10 percent lower than its competitors. Suning and Gome later joined the fight.
Jingdong said its gross profit from large home appliances was mostly negative during the promotion, although it did earn some profit.
Due to time-variant pricing, we weren't always able to make prices lower than our competitors, the company added.
The NDRC had discovered that promotional prices offered by the companies were higher than the original ones. Moreover, goods that were shown online as "out of stock" were actually in warehouses.
Suning also responded to the investigation.
